Set Realistic Expectations (and then Lower Them a Bit More)

Remember those grand plans you had for baking a dozen different types of cookies, crafting handmade gifts, and hosting an Insta-worthy dinner party? Yeah, let's scale that down. Pick a couple of things that genuinely bring you joy, and let the rest fall into the "maybe next year" category. You’ll thank yourself later.

Schedule Down Time

Yes, you heard that right. It is so easy to go go go during the holiday season. So give yourself a purposeful break. Designate some days as “pajama only days” where you and your family can retreat to cozy comfort, with no expectations attached.

Say No More Than You Say Yes

Trust me, no one will remember if you say no to attending the 5th school Christmas class party or turn down that after-hours work gathering. Choose your commitments wisely, and don't feel guilty about politely declining some invitations. Your mental health will thank you.

All of these tips are especially true to consider for our kids that may have neurodiverse needs. If you are raising a child with autism or other difference, the need for down time, limited social gatherings, and realistic expectations will be even more important.
